The LDS church is coordinating a focused effort to drown out resident's voices at the May 14th Planning Commission meeting. This is a Facebook post being spread around to numerous LDS Stakes in the community - far and wide. Their "packing the plaza" shows the complete disregard for the neighboring community's concerns and total disregard for property rights of residents by church leadership.
The LDS temple will PACK our quiet neighborhoods FOREVER.
Not one day for a meeting, but for GENERATIONS!
STOP THE TEMPLE!!

We must ensure that the City of Las Vegas protects taxpayer's and property owner's rights. They must abide by the Interlocal Agreement, the City of Las Vegas' own Unified Development Code, and Nevada Revised Statutes. Additionally, they must follow the federal Religious Land Use and Institionalized Persons Act, which states that governments must not "treat churches or other religious assemblies or institutions on less than equal terms with nonreligious assemblies or institutions". However, RLUIPA does NOT give religious institutions more rights than non-religions institutions or residents - they must follow the same zoning, codes, and ordinances as the rest of us do!!!
Corp of Presiding Bishop v. City of West Linn is a great case illustrating how the church attempted to skirt local zoning and lost in Oregon Supreme Court. This case has been used as precedent in a multitude of other cases brought forth into the court system by religious institutions.
Show up May 14th!
